The Polder sofa is defined by a strongly horizontal composition in which multiple volumes are placed side by side. The design consists of a series of upholstered elements that together form a layered and rhythmic arrangement.
The individual segments vary subtly in shape and proportion, creating a dynamic composition while maintaining visual calm. The asymmetrical layout breaks with the traditional symmetry of sofas and gives the object its own visual logic.
The construction remains clearly readable: each element forms an independent volume that contributes to the whole. This creates a tension between structure and softness.
Within Contemporary design, the sofa reflects Hella Jongerius’ approach, where craft, material and composition are combined. The design explores how variation and repetition can form a coherent whole.
The sofa is used in residential interiors and architectural spaces where it acts both as seating and as a visual focal point.
